CE Marking Enforcement Pilot in Medway Kent

CE Marking Enforcement Pilot in Medway Kent

Ian Gilmore, Team Leader with Medway Trading Standards, attended the last meeting of the GGF Kent, Surrey and Sussex Region on 30 June 2015.

At the meeting members advised him that one of the problems in our industry was the Construction Products Regulations. This was when non-GGF competitors failed to CE mark products or incorrectly marked them. This put them at a competitive advantage when breaking the law. This was considered a practice which was quite widespread.

Ian responded that he did not want to see the market undermined and acknowledged that one of Trading Standards’ functions was to police CE marking.

He advised that he was prepared to assist in this area with his, albeit somewhat limited, resources. He therefore suggested that Medway Trading Standards run a small pilot on this problem in its geographical area. He invited GGF members to contact Medway Trading Standards and report any company, which they considered was failing to comply with the CE marking provisions of the Construction Products Regulations in the Medway area. He also advised that those reporting these breaches can do so anonymously.

As a result of the above, if any member wished to contact Ian his details are as follows; Ian Gilmore, Trading Standards Team Leader, Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent ME4 4TN, Telephone 01634 331191, Email ian.gilmore@medway.gov.uk
