GGF ISSUES NEW CONSUMER CODE TO MEMBERS

GGF ISSUES NEW CONSUMER CODE TO MEMBERS

The GGF is pleased to announce the issue of a revised Consumer Code of Practice to its Membership. Since 1977, the GGF has operated a Consumer Code of Practice for all Member companies who sell direct to consumers (around 80% of Members) to comply with. The content of the Code was in previous years agreed with The Office of Fair Trading.

Over the past year the GGF has been working on a new Consumer Code of Practice for its Member companies, to take account of all new consumer legislation over the past two years and to enhance the consumer protection given by Members. The new Code was sent out to Members at the end of July 2015 along with GGF Guidance on dealing with vulnerable consumers, and the latest version of the Rules of the GGF.

As part of the new Code and to enhance the benefits to consumers of dealing with GGF Member companies, at the end of last year the GGF increased the deposit and stage payment protection to 50% of contract value or £12,500, via the GGF Deposit Indemnity Scheme.

The GGF expects this new Consumer Code to enhance the offering by its Member companies to consumers, and contribute to a growth in their sales. In particular, the new Code fits in extremely well with the new GGF consumer website, www.myglazing.com, launched in early September 2015. This new website increases awareness of the GGF and its Members to consumers, as well as giving consumers valuable independent and impartial advice on glazing products and services, and an easy to use “Find a Member” section.

To accompany the new Code, over the coming months the GGF will be introducing new exciting point of sale material to assist Member companies when selling to consumers.

As per the last four years, the GGF Membership continues to grow in 2015 with many well-known companies joining. If a company wishes to enquire about membership would they please email membership@ggf.org.uk, or fill in the “Join the GGF” page on www.ggf.org.uk.
