FENSA Announcement for Installations in Buildings Higher than 18m

FENSA has announced that with immediate effect, replacement windows, doors and roof lights installed in buildings higher than 18 metres (approximately 6 or 7 floors) can no longer be self-declared as compliant with the Building Regulations through FENSA.

Instead, these jobs will now need to be inspected/approved by the relevant local authority building control department, or independent approved inspector. This common approach has been agreed with other replacement glazing Competent Person Schemes.

The reason for this announcement is to make clear that buildings over 18m have specific fire regulations and risk assessments and inspections are best carried out by the local authority building control.

Chris Beedel, FENSA Director of Membership, commented: “This has been a FENSA board decision made in conjunction with other Competent Person Schemes to ensure that installations are in full compliance with building regulations and fire safety regulations.”
